Reading this table
Each row follows the futures contract nearest to expiry, the one the physical market uses as its benchmark. Oil and gas are quoted in dollars, gold and silver in dollars per ounce, copper in dollars per pound; wheat, corn and soybeans in cents per bushel, coffee and sugar in cents per pound, cocoa in dollars per tonne. Each row's unit is restated below its name.
A futures contract rolls to a new expiry several times a year. Moving from one expiry to the next can create a step in the series that matches no move in the physical market.
